What’s the Gas Consumption of SUNFLOWER Radiant Poultry Gas Brooder
Many farmers ask us what is the gas consumption of your SUNFLOWER gas brooder in their first inquiry.
Well, we cannot give a very accurate number as what they are expecting because it depens on many factors such as how the farmers manage the farm, the isolation of the house, at what days of the birds, the outside climate etc.
This radiant gas brooder is maximum and minimum flame type which means when it reaches to the set temperature, the brooder comes at the minimum power with a small flame on the small burner(very little gas will go through ) and when the temperature decreases, the brooder goes at the maximum power with a big flame. The infrared gas brooder consumes 0.047-0.47kg/h that is to say when it goes maximum, it’s 0.47kg/h, when it goes minimum, it’s 0.047kg/h. How long at minimum and how long at maximum really depend on how you use it.

Below is the reply from one poultry expert in Kenya according to his use in the poultry farm:
The temperature within the brooding house is determined by the age of the chick. A standard temperature chart on day old chicks is as below :
- Before placement of the chicks, the brooder house is preheated to a floor temperature of 30 degrees.
- On placement up to a body weight of 160 grams per chick or day 7, the temperature within the brooder must be maintained between 30-32 degrees to assist the chick to thermo regulate.
- At day 8-14, brooder house temperature is gradually reduced to 28 degrees.
- Day 15-21, the brooder house maintains temperature between 26-28 degrees.
Brooding ends at day 21 when birds no longer require heat.
Therefore, in open houses with good insulation, once the required temperature for the day is achieved, the rest is just maintaining. The brooders hence will only run at maximum for less than 20 minutes, and the rest of the time, it runs below 40%.
Alternatively, plan for an earlier heating time, and run the brooders at 30-40% and the house will warm up. Maintain at that.
We use thermometers to guild the temperature and when it’s warm outside, we reduce the heating pressure to maintain the required temperature for the day. Sometimes in warm weather, we don’t need to run the brooders duing the day.
Running them at maximum will cause overheating.
In closed environment house, we prefer to use the SUNFLOWER gas brooder with the thermostat (Model DO-6500L+). Since insulation is better, achieving the manitaining of the temperature in this house is very easy and effective.
Wether it’s an open or closed house, all SUNFLOWER gas brooders are attached to one central regulation piont to maintain an equal floor temperature.
